The six appraisal areas …

A Green Mark consultant will support your company in six appraisal areas:

  • developing an environmental policy
  • getting senior management commitment
  • identifying an employee as an 'environmental champion'
  • complying with key environmental legislation
  • demonstrating the steps taken to minimise overall environmental impact
  • raising environmental awareness

Contact us to discuss the process in further detail.

Renew or upgrade after 12 months …

Your Green Mark will be valid for 12 months at which point the award may then be renewed. You will also be offered the opportunity to move on to Level 2 or Level 3 of Green Mark. These higher levels represent further commitment and action by organisations towards environmental performance.

The process

1. Appraisal

This half day appraisal will be held onsite with your assigned Green Mark consultant, who will do a walk around review to get a sense of the company’s operation and establish areas for environmental improvement.

2. Action

Your consultant will send you a clear, straightforward set of guidelines outlining the recommendations for areas of environmental improvement. The consultant will be in touch to discuss the guidelines and any suggested changes.

These recommendations will be based around the six Green Mark appraisal areas outlined above.

3. Final appraisal

The final visit to the company by your consultant will be approximately half a day, during which they will assess the changes and progress that the organisation has made.

4. The award review

You will be sent a scorable review to establish if your company has achieved Green Mark Level 1. This would be discussed over the telephone with your consultant. Throughout the award process your consultant will keep you informed about your progress and what needs to be achieved before the final appraisal.

Once organisations have successfully achieved the Green Mark you will receive:

  • a certificate or prominent display
  • full Green Mark marketing materials
  • electronic resources including high resolution logos to add to your website

Organisations are also promoted on www.greenmark.co.uk with a focus feature on our news page, article within our newsletter and a permanent page in the "Who's got it?" section of the site.
